12th September - Specialist Sale
The Specialist Diecast Sale held on Tuesday the 12th of September comprised nine private owner collections offering over 730 lots of superior Diecast. The sale included boxed, unboxed and loose groups of Tractors and a superb selection of boxed Corgi Collectables plus Dinky and Matchbox.
The Rochdale Collection offered White Metal, mainly boxed. Additionally there were TV & Film related Diecast, plastics, radio controlled and construction vehicles.

Corgi No.201M Austin Cambridge Saloon orange body, silver trim, flat spun hubs, mechanical motor. A beautiful example in a blue carded picture box.

Corgi No.204 Rover 90 Saloon pale grey/cream body, silver trim, flat spun hubs. A beautiful example in a blue carded picture box - displays well.
Lot 1108
Corgi No.261 "James Bond" Aston Martin DB5 taken from the film "Goldfinger" gold body, red interior with "James Bond and Bandit" Figures, wire wheels. A beautiful example, inner pictorial stand, including blue and yellow carded picture box (does have some small scuffs to one edge) comes with secret instruction pack containing folded leaflet, lapel badge and spare bandit figure, also accompanied with "Model Car Makers to James Bond" colour folded leaflet.

Corgi No.349 Morris Mini Minor "Pop Art Mostest" orangey red body, lemon interior, silver trim, cast hubs. A nice bright example that displays well in a blue and yellow carded picture box (does have some loss of colour to non-picture sides and end flap).

Corgi No.204 Morris Mini Minor - a pair of hard to find issues (1) pale orange body with pale lemon interior, black base, Whizzwheels and (2) same as (1) but deep orange body, rare black roof, lemon interior, silver base, Whizzwheels, silver trim to door handles. (2)

Now That's Just Dinky!
On Wednesday 6th September Vectis Auction will be presenting one of the finest Dinky Toy Collections to be sold in recent years. There will be over 700 lots of British Dinky cars, commercials, buses and military vehicles offered, mainly in their original boxes, were applicable. Early Dinky cars were not retailed in individual boxes but rather sold in trade cartons of six to the retailer.
The owner, Steve Bonney has been collecting fine Dinky for over 30 years but feels it is now the right time to offer his assembly to a new audience.
Included is a rare 'Sweeteners for Industry' Leyland Octopus Tanker (No. 944), which was produced in 1963 - 1964 only as a promotional piece and given away in a plain box with a lemon bottom and white lid. Only 550 of these pieces were made and are highly sought after especially in this condition, it has a guideline of £4,000 - £5,000.
In addition to rare lots there are some more quirky additions such as the Austin 7 Countyman sold in the 1960?s in Day-Glo Orange and Fluorescent Green colourways; with pre-sale estimate of only £200 - £250 we are sure these would brighten your day.

Dinky No.505 Foden (1st type) 8-wheel Flat Truck with Chains - maroon cab, chassis, back and ridged hubs with black treaded tyres, silver flashes, tow hook - Near Mint, a superb outstanding model - in Excellent blue lift-off lid box with paper label - this was previously sold by Vectis on 9th April 2003, Lot No.717 for a world record price (post-war Dinky) of ?12,000 (including buyers premium) - can only be described as a superb example - see photo.

Dinky No.944 Leyland Octopus 8-wheel "Sweeteners For Industry" Tanker - "Corn Products" - this rare promotional issue is finished in white cab and tanker, black chassis, white plastic hubs with black treaded tyres, metal tow hook - Mint, a beautiful example - in generally Excellent Plus correct pale yellow and white plain lift-off lid box - believed that only 550 were issued as a promotion for the company - superb opportunity to acquire.

Model Train Sale Results - Friday 21st July
The Model Train auction brought some wonderful results. Over 600 lots in the sale included The Sussex Collection of Hornby Dublo 2-rail plus further HO, OO and N Gauge. There was a terrific offering of Hornby Dublo 3 Rail, Triang, Wrenn, Trix, Kitbuilt and Live Steam. Meccano and other constructional toys featured plus a varied selection of general trains, train related books, magazines and catalogues.
The auction also incorporated the 'Michael Foster British Toy Train Collection'. Michael is the celebrated author of a series of four books on British Toy Trains that are recognized as the ultimate reference guides for this sub section of model trains. The auction featured the toys included in Volumes One and Two of these compendia.

Wrenn W2303 4-6-2 LMS plain black Streamlined Coronation Class No.6237 "City of Bristol" with instructions, this is one of the locomotives assembled in the Dapol Factory after their acquisition of the Wrenn Company, condition is Mint in reproduction box.

DJH Kitbuilt OO Gauge 4-6-0 Loco and Tender LMS maroon large boiler Claughton "Breadalbane" No.6017. Professionally built and painted, missing 1 nameplate to one side otherwise Near Mint. Fitted with a portescap or similar motor.

Hornby Dublo 3-rail 6 car "West Riding Limited" Train comprising of 3 x Articulated pairs in two-tone blue, coaches are made from D12 Hornby Dublo Coaches with centre articulated bogie, superbly finished condition Mint.

DJH Kitbuilt O Gauge Limited Edition Ref K304 4-6-2 Loco and Tender LNER green Class A2 Peppercorn "A.H. Peppercorn" No.525, 2-rail finescale electric. Professionally built and painted with AH Peppercorn nameplate to smoke deflector sides, running number 525 to cab and LNER lettering to tender sides. Locomotive fitted with crew and mechanism is portescap or similar. This comes complete with limited edition certificate No.37 of 125 produced and signed by the tool making team. Excellent.

DJH O Gauge Kitbuilt Ref K306A 2-6-2 Loco and Tender LNER green V2 Class "Green Arrow" No.4771, 2-rail finescale electric. Green Arrow nameplates to smokebox sides, running number 4771 to cab sides and LNER lettering to tender sides. Locomotive fitted with crew and portescap or similar motor. Excellent to Excellent Plus with limited edition certificate No.4 of 35 produced and signed by the DJH tool making team.

Whitanco WW1 "Barney E1" Tank. Very early tinplate clockwork tank in tan with embossed rivet detail. Whitanco trademarks and "Barney E.1 in gold to sides. Original black metal tracks. Hatch at rear opens to reveal the substantial clockwork motor. With non-original key. Motor working when tested. Length 8.25?/21 cm. Some light surface wear. Generally Good Plus in a Fair original box with illustrated label to lid (splits and repairs to corners of base and lid and some punctures to sides of base). (Book 1 page 20) A rare item, especially with its original box.

Marx 351P Overpainted Locomotive with 351 Tin Printed Tender and 2x Coaches. Clockwork O gauge tinplate locomotive factory overpainted in red with black smoke box front with tin printed tender in red and cream with "Mar Lines" logo to sides and 2x red and cream bogie coaches with "Mar Lines" logos to sides. Clockwork motor working when tested. Length of loco and tender 13.5"/34cm. Each coach is 9.25"/23.5cm long. Some light wear to finish but condition is generally Good Plus. (Book 2 pages 104 & 105)

Marx (USA) Canadian Pacific 3000 Locomotive, Tender and 5x Coaches. Tinplate O gauge 3 rail 2-4-2 electric loco in black and grey with red and gold detailing. 3000 to loco sides, "Canadian Pacific" to tender sides. 5x Canadian Pacific bogie coaches with a maroon metallised tin printed finish. Coaches are individually named "Vancouver", "Calgary", "Hamilton", "Montreal" and "Toronto". Length of loco and tender 14.5"/37cm. Length of each coach 6"/15cm. Loco has some light wear to finish and is generally Good Plus. Coaches are Excellent. With a Fair to Poor cardboard Marx Canadian Pacific Train Set Box containing track layout sheet, instructions etc.

On Wednesday 6th September Vectis Auctions will offer an outstanding collection of Dinkys. The man behind this magnificent group, Steve Bonney provides the history to the sale -
"My love of Dinky Toys began as young boy of five in the late fifties. I remember being fascinated by the colourful liveries and faithful reproductions of vehicles I could see regularly on the roads. The classic catalogues featuring the Mersey Tunnel, Big Ben and the Statue of Eros were studied endlessly.
At that time, I had limited interest in cars. I had a large collection of military models but my main interest lay in commercial vehicles. Something as simple as a box of dried peas could add significant play value to an Elevator Loader and a Euclid Tipper. I was lucky to have a great uncle who owned a hardware shop which also sold Dinky Toys and Meccano and a friend of my Dad, who had no family of his own, took me under his wing and regularly turned up with an iconic blue and white striped box containing the latest model. Mears Toy Shop in Preston was also an important supplier. In those days, young lads played with model vehicles for longer than they do today and it was only on starting secondary school that my love of Dinkies began to wane as I started to discover football and girls (in no particular order). Twenty years elapsed. In 1985, purely by chance, I came across a toy fair being held in a Liverpool hotel. I realised that with a bit of searching, it was possible to find the Dinky Toys of my childhood, in mint or near mint condition and still in their original boxes. The "collecting gene? kicked in and there was no turning back.
My initial objective was to acquire all the models I had as a boy which were still owned, but in a very play-worn condition. I achieved this quite quickly. The next ambition was to assemble a reference collection, at least one example of every model issued between 1946 and 1963. This, I never managed. At this time I was also buying Corgi and Spot-On but these imposters were soon sold in order to concentrate on more important matters. Local toy fairs were unable to provide models of the quality I wanted so I moved on to the national fairs including Donnington, NEC and Sandown which, for a while offered richer pickings. Auctions, particularly Vectis, were becoming an increasingly important source and I became a regular bidder at the Buckingham auction. All the models in the collection have come from established and reputable dealers and auction houses. Many were acquired from Vectis who will now have the opportunity to sell them again!
I loved the adrenaline rush that came from paddling at a live auction and in April 2003, reached what was probably the high point in my collecting career when I was the winning bidder on a 505 Foden First Cab Chain Lorry in maroon for what was, at the time, a world record price for a post war model. When the hammer went down, I remember there being a brief round of applause. I was slightly shocked to have won and the whole episode felt like an out of body experience. Later in the week, the Daily Mail took great delight in pointing out that the auction price was higher than the showroom price of a Mini Cooper, which at least could be driven away. How little they understood??????..
The models included in this auction are part of our heritage and must be preserved. It would be a tragedy if they passed into the hands of my grandchildren who would not value them and would soon have them in the garden. For the last six or seven years I have been inactive as a collector and right from the beginning, it was always my intention to put the models back on the market eventually so they could pass into the hands of new owners who would love and cherish them in the way I have for the past thirty years. Diecast Delights in the July Sale
There was a number of jaw dropping results in the Specialist Diecast Sale held on Wednesday the 12th July with a few lots smashing their pre-sale estimates by huge amounts. The sale comprised over eight private owner collections, including very tempting Foden Trucks and Spot-On models.
Over 640 lots were on offer of superb boxed, unboxed and loose groups of British and Continental Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox plus some enticing Gift Sets. There was also an extremely interesting selection of Triang vehicles exclusively produced in New Zealand.
Ever popular, the TV and Film Diecast section did not disappoint with Man From Uncle and James Bond lots still pulling in strong bids.

Corgi No.270 "James Bond" Aston Martin DB5 - silver, red interior with "James Bond & Bandit" figures, tyre slashes - overall condition is Near Mint (apart from ejector seat is slightly stiff and roof panel does not quite close correctly) - still a nice bright example in a generally Excellent Plus harder to find blue and yellow slimline window box, comes with sealed secret instruction pack containing lapel badge, bandit figure, folded instruction sheet and unapplied numberplate decal sheet - see photo.
