The Matchbox Sale to be held on the 24th of May started with 200 lots of boxed and unboxed models, single and group lots of Matchbox Superfast, including, German market issues, promotional and twin pack issues, American vehicles, Super Kings, Speed Kings, lapel badges, Skybusters and counter displays. The sale also included The Paul Carr Regular Wheels collection of early promotional issues, blister packs, accessory and major packs, Gift sets, empty boxes and printed card roadway. The collection featured a fantastic selection of pre-production and colour factory trials plus a rare experimental trial model.
The Specialist, Tinplate Toys and Model Train sale held on the 18th of May started with over 200 lots of boxed and unboxed Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox Models of Yesteryear, and others plus a large collection of kits from Revel, Airfix, Tamiya, Fujimi and more. The sale continued with tinplate and plastic lots including battery operated, friction drive and clockwork models from Mettoy, Wells, Victory Models, and Bandai. There were space and novelty toys, HO scale vehicles from Lego, reference books, Anker building blocks, Bayko sets, and novelty guns. Train items included Hornby O Gauge, Mamod and Meccano live steam engines, Marklin, Triang and railwayana.
The Specialist Sale held on the 10th of May featured a large assortment of diecast models from Corgi and Dinky, including boxed and unboxed model cars, commercials, trucks, military vehicles, cabinets and Gift Sets. Further items in the sale included Part 2 of The Hector Hamer Collection, tractors and farm vehicles from Britains, Joal NZG and many others. Part 1 of The Swindon Collection included further Britains tractors, plus trade packs, and models from ERTL, Brian Norman Farm Miniatures and many more, and a further Private Owner Collection included more Corgi and Dinky models, empty boxes, Crescent Toys and Spot On. The sale also included TV & Film Related items, James Bond related, plus British Continental & Foreign made diecast vehicles.
The military, civilian figures, equipment and accessories sale held on the 17th of May started with modern and contemporary issues from Britains, King & Country, CBG Mignot, Lucotte, Heyde and others. Further items included Composition & Tinplate Figures, Vehicles & Accessories and a nice selection of Britains Racing Colours of Famous Owners, which included the final part of The Ossington Collection, the first of which, was held in February and produced some fantastic prices. The sale also included boxed and unboxed Britains Military issues, Books & Catalogues, Airfix Archive and Militaria.
The Palitoy Shop display which sold in our TV & Film related sale today for ?15,600!!
Lot 6269 on the 28th of April was a highly anticipated Lot, the Palitoy Star Wars Return of the Jedi vintage Vehicle and Figure Promotional Store Display, was on offer with an estimate of ?5,000-?10,000
These store displays were all hand built, painted and were provided by to key accounts and partners to Palitoy to promote the new film release, and character lines. It depicts the battle scene on Endor, at the end of the new Return of The Jedi film.
This particular display was awarded to Romer Parrish, one of Teesside most iconic toy shops, which opened in 1933 on Linthorpe Road Middlesbrough.
Originally made by NJ Farmers Associates Ltd for Palitoy circa 1982, it was bought by a collector when the store closed in the mid 90s, the vendor decided to sell after talking to our Specialist Nick Dykes
Nick said: ?This is a unique opportunity to acquire something of not only Star Wars history but what is also social history. These large toy displays are fondly remembered by so many children, bringing back so many memories. The local connection to the auction house is the cherry on the top really of a superb story?.
The anticipation in the room was matched online and with a book full of commission bids, it opened at ?9,000, the commission bid was soon taken on by an internet bidder who persevered and won the Lot at ?13,000 (?15,600 with commission)
