How to bid in a timed auction
Military and Civilian Figures Toys and Collectables Auctions

What is a timed auction?

Our timed auction format follows largely the same structure as our traditional auctions. The main difference is that there is no live auctioneer or video feed present. Instead, the auction is entirely automated and runs according to preset timers

How does a timed auction work?

When participating in a timed auction, you can expect each item in the catalogue to have a unique timer running down until the day of the auction. This means that you can keep track of each item's remaining time and bid accordingly. The auction itself will still proceed in an orderly fashion, with each lot being auctioned off in order and with no overlapping of lots.

On the day of the auction, the lots will run sequentially, with a predetermined gap between each lot. This means that you can anticipate when each lot will be auctioned off and plan your bidding strategy accordingly. In addition, if a bid is placed within the last 10 seconds of the timer, the timer will be extended, allowing for a counter bid to be placed. This extension will carry over into future lots to avoid any overlapping.

Essentially, participating in a timed auction is similar to bidding in one of our normal sales, but with the added advantage of being able to see exactly when each item will be auctioned off and how much time is remaining for you to place your bid. This makes it much easier to bid on upcoming lots and to stay on top of the auction as a whole.

Can I still place commission bids?

Commission bids can still be placed like normal either online, over the phone or via email.

Are there any extra fees or shipping changes?

All fees and shipping and postage charges are the same.

Why are we running timed auctions?

Timed auctions allow us to have more flexibility to run auctions outside of regular business hours, so even if you're busy during the day, you won't miss out on the fun. Plus, timed auctions require less of our manpower, which means we can get your toys to you even faster!

To make it even easier for you, we've included a time estimate for when your favourite lots will be up for auction on the day, so you can plan your day accordingly. And the best part? You'll know exactly when each lot closes down to the second

Are you getting rid of live auctions?

No, auction types will be chosen on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes, a live auction with an auctioneer is the way to go. It can be super exciting and create a fun atmosphere. Other times, a timed auction may be the best option. With this type of auction, we can fit more lots into a shorter amount of time, which means less waiting and more action! Rest assured that we always have your best interests at heart. We'll work closely with you to determine the best auction type for your specific needs.

How do I bid in a timed auction?

When you access a timed auction, you will be directed to a page that resembles a catalogue. This page displays all the lots available for bidding in the auction. If you have participated in our auctions before, this page will look familiar to you. However, during a timed auction, on the day when the auction is ending, you will still bid from this page.

To find the lot you are interested in, you can use the filters search bar or browse through the catalogue. The filters search bar allows you to search for specific lots by keyword or lot number. If you prefer browsing, you can scroll through the catalogue, which displays all lots in numerical order. Each lot displays an image, a description, and the current bid. You can also sort by items you have wishlisted, winning, outbid and items you have bid on

When you have found a lot you would like to bid on, you simply need to enter your maximum bid and press the "place bid" button. It's important to note that your maximum bid is the highest amount you are willing to pay for the lot. The system will automatically bid on your behalf up to your maximum bid, ensuring that you remain the highest bidder until someone outbids you.

After placing your bid, a pop-up will appear showing a breakdown of the price, including your buyer's premium. The buyer's premium is a percentage fee charged by the auction house on top of the hammer price. Please note that shipping costs are not included in this breakdown. You can find the shipping prices on the Shipping and postage page

If your bid becomes the highest bid, you will see some elements of the bidding section turn green. You will also see some text explaining your maximum bid and the current bid. This means that you are currently the highest bidder and that the lot is yours unless someone outbids you before the auction ends. This will go red with the related text telling you if you have been outbid.
