The Nigel Abbott Renault Model Car Collection
Nigel Abbott was a young boy when his Uncle purchased a Renault car, this sparked a lifelong passion for the French vehicles. Since the 1960’s all of his family have owned and driven Renault cars.
It was a natural progression for Nigel to start to amass smaller scale Renault versions. Over a 30-year period he assembled classic and modern versions of cars, buses and commercials produced by Corgi, Dinky, Pathfinder, Pilen, Spark, Minichamps, Norev, Universal Hobbies, Solido plus others. The collection includes Nigel’s personal favourite the Renault 25. This large, executive five-door was the ultimate in comfort and style when it was produced in 1983 until 1992. It was runner up ‘European Car of the Year’ in 1985. There are model issues from MC Models, Norev and Heco, all boxed in superior order.
Renault was established in 1899 by the brothers Louis, Marcel and Fernand combining Louis’ engineering and design skills with his two brother’s business brains. The elder two had worked for their father in his textile firm. The company is still going strong today.
One of the most unusual releases by Renault was the ‘Juvaquatre’ which feature in the sale in lots 195 and 203. This model was based on the six-wheeled Renault prototype which as part of a French expedition in 1923, had traversed the Sahara Desert, becoming the first vehicle-based expedition to successfully cross the great desert. A technologically advanced and innovative Renault Juva 4 (Juvaquatre) model arrived in 1935.
Nigel is an active member of various Renault Associations but has decided to part with a selection of his collection, enabling him to concentrate on his Models of Yesteryear Renaults by parting with his 1/43rd scale group.
This ‘Roar of Renaults’ is to be sold at Vectis Auctions on Tuesday 9th October 2018. If you would like more information please contact Andrew Reed on +44 (0) 1642 750616 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
