Part 1 of The John Watkins Matchbox Collection is to be held on the 30th of July, the private owner collection will feature over 500 lots of Matchbox Regular Wheels, Gift Sets and more. The collection includes pre-production models, factory colour trials, promotional issues and rare colour and wheel variations. Interesting lots to look out for include a pre-production trial 36c Opel Diplomat, a rare reverse issue Wreck Truck and a Regular Wheels no.3 presentation set. The collection includes boxed and unboxed models, single lots to groups and features something for every level of collector.

Matchbox Regular Wheels Presentation Set No.3 containing Regular Wheel models 17a to 24a. (1) 17a Bedford Removals Van - Stannard Code 8 - green type D body with silver trim, metal wheels with flat crimped axles - Excellent Plus in Good type B2 box with small model numbers to end flaps (2 inner end flaps detached but still present within box); (2) 18a Caterpillar Bulldozer - Stannard Code 1 - metal rollers with original & pliable green rubber tracks - Near Mint with chip to top of exhaust stack in Good Plus type B2 box with small model numbers to end flaps; (3) 19a MG TD - Stannard Code 2 - off-white body with silver trim, tan driver, red seats, metal wheels with flat crimped axles - Excellent with some small chips particularly to top of windscreen in Good type B2 box with large model numbers to end flaps (tear to one end flap); (4) 20a ERF Dropside Lorry - Stannard Code 3 - maroon body with silver trim, metal wheels with flat crimped axles - Good Plus in Excellent Plus type B1 box; (5) 21a Bedford Duple Luxury Coach - Stannard Code 1 - green body with silver trim, metal wheels with flat crimped axles - Near Mint with a couple of tiny chips to decals in Near Mint type B2 box with large model numbers to end flaps; (6) 22a Vauxhall Cresta - Stannard Code 1 - dark red body with off-white roof, matt black base with front axle brace, metal wheels with flat crimped axles - Excellent Plus (factory silver paint mark to rear wing) in Good type B2 box with large model numbers to end flaps (tape repair to one end flap); (7) 23b Berkeley Cavalier Caravan - Stannard Code 2 - pale blue body & base with single ejector ring, metal wheels with flat crimped axle - Good Plus in Good Plus type B2 box with large model numbers to end flaps; (8) 24a Weatherill Hydraulic Excavator - Stannard Code 1 - orange-yellow body with silver trim, metal wheels with flat crimped axles - Excellent in Excellent Plus to Near Mint type B2 box with large model numbers to end flaps, outer box is Good Plus to Excellent with a couple of small tears to corners & price label to one end flap which is covering a small surface tear where a previous price label has been removed, colour illustration is Near Mint. Extremely rare set to find in any condition.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 36c Opel Diplomat Pre-production trial model - pastel green body without silver trim, clear windows, white interior, grey engine, grey plastic base, 36-tread black plastic wheels - Good Plus to Excellent with some small paint chips but still displays nicely in Excellent Plus type E3 box illustrating correct colour of model - very rare factory pre-production colour trial with grey plastic base.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 13d Dodge BP Wreck Truck - Stannard Code 1 - dark green cab with silver trim to grille, headlamps & front numberplate, dark green type A jibs with thin base, grey plastic hook, red roof-light, turquoise green windows, BP decals, lemon yellow rear body & base, 45-tread black plastic wheels - overall Good Plus with some light play wear along with some small areas of repainting in generally Good Plus creased later period type E2 box without "New Model" lettering to end flaps (reference label to one end flap, the opposite end flap has "grey hook" added in ink. Very genuine issue reverse colour Wreck Truck which still displays well.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 44c GMC Refrigerator Truck - factory colour trial model - green cab & chassis, white grille & cab base without tow guide, metallic silver container body without rear door stop cast, white plastic rear opening door, turquoise green windows, 40-tread black plastic wheels. Model differs from production versions in having a smooth plastic cab base with model No.44 cast rather than production versions which have a cab base with raised ridge lines & "GMC" cast along with thin rather than thick axle braces - Good Plus with paint chips to container & minor damage to corner of front bumper in Excellent type E4® box illustrating correct colour of model without "New Model" lettering.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 13d Dodge BP Wreck Truck - unlisted Stannard Code - green cab & type B jibs with lower brace, red plastic hook & roof-light, turquoise green windows, BP labels, lemon yellow rear body & base with matt paint finish, 45-tread black plastic wheels with crimped axles - Excellent Plus with just a few tiny chips in Excellent a little stained type E4® box. Very rare factory painted model dating from 1970.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 45b Ford Corsair - Stannard Code 6 - pale yellow body with silver trim to headlamps & front grille, clear windows, rare white interior with front extensions, bare metal base, 36-tread black plastic wheels, complete with boat & roof-rack - Excellent with some tiny chips to raised edge of left hand side front & rear wings and scratch to roof in Good type F2 box (missing one inner end flap). Very rare model with white interior.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 34b Volkswagen Caravette - Stannard Code 1 - pale green body with silver trim, turquoise green windows, dark green interior & twin rivet base, 9 x 20-tread silver plastic wheels - Excellent Plus with a few tiny pin size chips to body raised outlines in Excellent Plus "New Model" type C Lesney box without printers identification (does have some minor marks to striker sides but otherwise very clean & crisp box). Very rare model with 20-tread silver plastic wheels.

Matchbox Regular Wheels PS-2 German Export Issue Car Transporter Gift Set "Auto Transporter Mit 4 Autos" containing (1) 30a Ford Prefect - Stannard Code 2 - fawn body with silver trim, rear rivet post without braces, matt black base, metal wheels with domed crimped axles (earlier period model incorrect for this set which should contain a grey plastic wheel model); (2) 31a Ford Customline Station Wagon - Stannard Code 5 - yellow body with hand applied silver trim & red tail-lamps, satin black base, 20-tread grey plastic wheels with crimped axles; (3) 33a Ford Zodiac - Stannard Code 17 - metallic mauve body orange side panels, without rear silver trim but with red tail-lamps, turquoise green windows, gloss black type B base with large model number cast, 20-tread silver plastic wheels (later period model for this set which should contain a metallic mauve & orange model without windows fitted); (4) 36a Austin A50 Cambridge - Stannard Code 4 - turquoise body with mask sprayed rear silver trim & mask sprayed red tail-lamps, matt black base, 18-tread grey plastic wheels with crimped axles; (5) Accessory Pack A2 Bedford Articulated Car Transporter - mid blue tractor units with mask sprayed silver trim, mid blue trailer with braces & red "Car Collection Ltd" decals, 30-tread grey plastic wheels with crimped axles - contents are Excellent to Near Mint with some rusting to axles and Ford Zodiac has some scratches to roof in Excellent Moko presentation box complete with correct inner card packing referring to the Ford Customline Station Wagon as "No.31 Amerikanischer Ford Lieferwagen".

Matchbox Regular Wheels original printers sheet of unstamped Regular Wheel Boxes - see photo - features various type D4, E1, E2 & E3 boxes. These sheets would have been stacked and then stamped out to produce the flat pack boxes which would be sent to Lesney for use on the assembly lines. Printed by Bowaters sheet dates from approximately 1966 - sheet has been folded in half in the past with a few small areas of minor discolouration but is generally nice clean & bright Excellent Plus condition in recent wood frame, 46"/34.5" (117cm x 88cm).
