The Specialist Matchbox sale held on the 30th of January featured a large selection of Regular Wheel and Superfast models. Lots included boxed and unboxed, single and group models, including road and racing cars, commercials, military, emergency vehicles, and Gift sets plus Accessory Packs, Superfast Racing sets, display stands, Disney series, promotional models, blister packs and many harder to find models. Further items included Major Packs, King Size, Super King, and Battle King. There were a number of model makers’ resin pre-production prototypes, plus shop signs, display cards and ephemera including clothing, and collectors’ catalogues.

 

Matchbox Regular Wheels G-2 Car Transporter Gift Set containing (1) 22b Vauxhall Cresta - metallic dark pink body with turquoise side panels, with rear silver trim & red tail lamps, pale green windows, gloss black base, 20-tread grey plastic wheels (chip to each rear fin); (2) 25b Volkswagen Beetle - metallic silver-blue body with rear silver trim, pale green windows, gloss black base, 20-tread grey plastic wheels (factory casting flaws to engine cover); (3) 33a Ford Zodiac - metallic mauve body with orange side panels, with rear silver trim & red tail lamps, pale green windows, gloss black base, 20-tread silver plastic wheels; (4) 39a Ford Zodiac Convertible - dark salmon pink body with rear silver trim & red tail lamps, tan driver, turquoise interior & base, 18-tread grey plastic wheels; (5) 57b Chevrolet Impala - two-tone body with rear silver trim & red tail lamps, pale green windows, dark blue base, 20-tread silver plastic wheels; (6) Ford Thunderbird - off white body with rear silver trim & individual red tail lamps, pale green windows, dark blue base, 20-tread silver plastic wheels; (7) Accessory Pack A2 Bedford Articulated Car Transporter - blue tractor unit with mask sprayed silver trim to grille & headlamps only, 30-tread grey plastic wheels, blue trailer with dark red "Car Collection Ltd" decals, 30-tread black plastic wheels (usual paint loss to coupling area) - Excellent Plus to Mint in Good Plus type C Lesney box which is a little discoloured with a couple of small tears complete with inner card packing tray. Very nice example of this set.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 55b Ford Fairlane Police Car - Stannard Code 1 - dark blue body with rear silver trim, clear windows, ivory interior, gloss black base, 9 x 20-tread black plastic wheels - Near Mint (model does have a couple of tiny pin size white paint spots to trunk & roof along with tiny pin size chip to right hand rear fin) in Near Mint type D2 box printed by Pembroke Abbey. Very nice example of this rare colour.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 56a London Trolleybus "Peardrax" - Stannard Code 1 - red body with black trolleypoles, smooth roof interior, matt black base, metal wheels - overall Near Mint with just some slight surface rust to axle ends in Good creased type B3 box. Nice example which just needs box upgrading.

Matchbox Superfast 20a Lamborghini Marzal - dayglo orange body with high arches, bare metal base, 5-spoke wide wheels - rare factory error assembled without glazing unit & without interior - Near Mint to Mint in Fair creased but complete type I box.

Matchbox Superfast 36d Refuse Truck Pre-production colour trial - red cab, cream plastic container body without "Collectomatic" & opening hatch, without plastic slide fitted, clear windows, red grille & base with incomplete copyright date but with model number cast, 5-arch wheels - Near Mint unboxed.

Matchbox Moko Muffin's Friend "Peregrine the Penguin" Hand Puppet - Fair (unfortunately both body components have distorted and come apart, these have been glued together in the past but the distortion over the years has become more severe), complete with head & legs along with original cords & finger rings in Good a little creased but complete with all end flaps Moko box. Rare item to find in any condition.

Matchbox Moko early Lesney toys large scale Tag & Bone Merchants Cart - yellow cart with red wheels, tan driver, metallic graphite grey horse, complete with khaki crate & 6 x original bare metal pieces of junk - Good to Good Plus with paint loss to driver and some corrosion to cart, horse & crate in Fair damp damaged faded & stained but still complete box.

Matchbox Regular Wheels 1/75 Series 1953-1969 Collectors Catalogue hardback ring binder book by Michael J Stannard - this is the detailed bible of Regular Wheel models which included all the then known manufacturing variations - Excellent.

Matchbox Regular Wheels wooden & card retailers counter shop display stand illustrating Regular Wheel 5c London Routemaster Bus "BP Visco-Static" in type C Lesney box with models price marked at 1 shilling & 9 old pence each - overall Good Plus but still a very presentable example of this desirable retailers point of sale display stand (missing original glass cover but this could be easily replaced).
