The Model Train & Meccano Auction held on Friday 21st February at the Vectis Thornaby Auction Rooms comprised over 600 lots of Hornby Dublo, 2 and 3 Rail, American Outline, Marklin and Wrenn plus accessories, catalogues, books and magazines. Additionally, there were a strong selection of British and French Meccano sets, outfits, parts, figures and more unusual items such as Crazy Inventor Series, radio-controlled sets and Elektron. The sale also included general trains, kit-built items, live steam, pictures and other constructional toys.

Hornby O Gauge rare export SAR/SAS (South African) O Gauge No.2 mixed Goods Set with a 4-4-2 Tank Loco SAR/SAS maroon No.6027, clockwork together with 4 x Goods Wagons, quantity of 2-rail tinplate track and associated paperwork. The locomotive is a standard No.2 Special Tank but finished in SAR/SAS (South African Railway) maroon with a "Hornby Series 6027" gold, black and red circular transfer to bunker sides. 4 small chips to boiler/tank locomotive offside otherwise Near Mint together with Wagons two-tone grey blue No.1 Cattle Truck, small lettered SAR/SAS to wagon sides, Open Wagon and Brake Van both with large lettered SAR/SAS lettering to wagon sides and a Motor Shell Spirit Tanker. Included are 12 x 2-rail tinplate track, boiler cover, key, spanner, test label together with membership for application Hornby Railway Company date coded 2/34, leaflet dated 1/34 and a guarantee slip although torn to the bottom right hand edge has an agent stamp for South Africa - "Arthur E Harris 142 Market Street, Johannesburg". Loco in Excellent Plus to Near Mint, wagons are Near Mint all in a Fair to Good box, some repairs and damage to box lid and includes Hornby Trains No.2 Mixed Goods Set labels to both ends and SAR/SAS label. A rare and interesting early 1930's export South African Set.

Third loco fitted with proto-sound and include features synchronised puffing smoke, operating tender back light, locomotive speed control, diecast boiler and chassis, percussion flywheel equip motor, operating firebox glow and many other features. Near Mint in Excellent box.
