LEGO brick – 60th Anniversary

The 28th of January saw the 60th anniversary of the iconic LEGO brick. The name is derived from the Danish phrase Leg Godt, which means ‘Play Well’. Although the group was founded much earlier, the anniversary of the brick stems from the ‘birth’ of the brick as we know it today – with the internal plastic tubes; LEGO is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of play materials.

Originally manufactured in just five colours they now produce over 60, with over 3,700 different elements. The largest set ever produced, just last year in 2017, contains 7,541 pieces. The Millennium Falcon was part of the Ultimate Collectors Series.

Vectis have sold many ‘Lots’ of LEGO from loose bricks to built models and sealed sets. Although LEGO City and LEGO Technic sets are highly sought after, add a franchise such as Star Wars or Lord of The Rings and your auction value instantly increases.

In October 2017 a pre-made R2-D2 sold for £192 (including Buyers Premium)

whilst a pair of Lord of The Rings sealed sets achieved £156.

Even a large box of loose bricks realised £204 from an estimate of £40 - £60.

The company motto of "Only the best is good enough” certainly shows through with this product, with a constant stream of new builders being introduced to the world of creativity and imagination through play.
