Lot 180 - Kathe Kruse No.1 cloth doll, German, 1910-1913 (this doll has separately sewn-on thumb and wide hips*), moulded cloth face with finely oil-painted eyes with radiating iris and features, painted hair, fixed head with neck seam, rear of head has 3 pate seams, muslin body, portraying a 2 to 3 year old child with very wide jointed hips, 7 pieces of cloth comprise the torso and 5 pieces of cloth make the legs. The arms consist of 2 pieces of cloth, with fingers separately quilted and thumbs separately sewn on. Hair is rubbed at forehead, slight cracking to hair paint at rear, slight rubs to left cheek, right cheek has some indentations, small indentation to bridge of nose, body is slightly discoloured, otherwise Excellent to Excellent Plus, wearing cotton clothing, ink stamp to left foot 8758, 17"/43cm. *See Treasury of Kathe Kruse Dolls by Lydia Richter, page 51 Identification by Painting.
