The Doll and Teddy Bear sale held on the 29th of June featured a large collection of vintage Miss Rosebud hard plastic dolls, plus hand sewn and knitted outfits, miniatures and accessories. Further Lots included artist dolls, antique bisque, Pedigree dress making dolls, plus vintage children and doll clothing. There was a large selection of porcelain vintage half dolls, reference books, children’s books, magazines and reference material. The sale also included a large collection of Steiff and Charlie bears, plus artist bears, glove puppets, TV & Film related soft toys and a nice collection of books from Margaret Tarrant.

"Miniature Rosebud Dolls at 'Clouds'", originally used for fund-raising displays, with the help and arrangement of Shirley Witt, a nurse at the Beatrix Nursery, "Clouds", East Knoyle, Salisbury, the subject of an article from Doll Showcase magazine, by Frances Harrison. These dolls were used to raise funds for the children. Collection of hand-dressed mainly 1950s hard plastic dolls (includes some Rosebud 6.5"/17cm). NB For a month every year from Christmas to January, Matron, Sister and Staff put on a display of dolls, dressed mainly in crepe paper and hand-sewn costumes. For example 1952 was Sleeping Beauty and in 1953 the fairy stories were abandoned in favour of The Coronation at Westminster Abbey. Good to Excellent; (qty). History: Beatrix Nursery, East Knoyle, (1943 - 1964) Founded 1943 by Dowager Lady Pembroke, who offered the top floor of her own home, Knoyle House, to take in homeless babies for The Children's Society. Named after her daughter Lady Beatrix, later Countess of Wicklow. Opened to take four babies 1.11.1943, the number grew to fourteen. In 1946, the nursery moved from Knoyle House to Clouds House, East Knoyle, used by the military in WWII. Surrounded by twenty acres of land it allowed the nursery to expand to forty-two.

Steiff SAMPLE rare Mr Cinnamon 1903 replica teddy bear, white tag- "HAND-MUSTER" printed to reverse of tag (indicates pre-production sample), Steiff button to ear, Excellent Plus to Near Mint, 13.5"/35cm. NB: The vendor states- "The Cinnamon bear was given to me by a Steiff representative. It is from my personal collection of bears."

Asquiths of Windsor Earl teddy bear and sample by Steiff: (1) Earl, taupe alpaca teddy bear, black plastic eyes, black stitched nose, velvet pads, black claw stitching, fully jointed, made as an exclusive for Asquiths, 15.5"/40cm; (2) Earl, sample by Steiff, caramel mohair, black plastic eyes, black vertically stitched nose, wool felt pads, black claw stitching, fully jointed, 15.5"/40cm; Near Mint; (2). NB: Joan Bland (Asquiths of Windsor) approached Steiff to produce a limited edition of Earl. This design never went into production and is the only known sample. During the 1980s and 1990s Steiff 'Work in Progress' did not have Ids, they had luggage labels attached, which often became detached. Statement from the vendor: 'The grey bear made from alpaca was called Earl. Steiff made a copy with the intention of producing it for me. Just after receiving the sample they decided that Steiff would only produce their own bears. I do not have any record of correspondence. I think the transactions was all verbal.'

Merrythought Tommy the World War 1 Centenary Bear, Danbury Mint exclusive, LE 467/1914, based on an original teddy bear pattern produced throughout the war years. Blonde sparse mohair, wearing smart uniform, inspired by the jacket and cap worn by British soldiers in 1914, peeking out of his breast pocket is a tiny mascot bear- often given to loved ones in the hope they would bring them luck and return them safely back home, Good to Good Plus, with certificate, 14"/36cm.
