Full Lot Description

Walking Cane Sword Stick York Minster 1840 souvenier - Burred Wood Cane with brass ferrule tip, German blade marked Solingen to both sides, handle is made from reclaimed metal from the bell of York Minster which burnt down in 1840 with inscription relating to that event around lower edge, believed to be sold as souvenirs to raise funds for the rebuilding of York Minster - metal work is in Excellent, aged condition, wooden stick and handle collar do have some splits/light damage, cane is probably missing collar, Good Plus to Excellent, this does have an accompanying letter from the BBC "Going for a song buried treasure" apologising for not being able to feature this item on their show and does have hand written description and estimate, unsigned but believed to be by Arthur Negus.
