Full Lot Description

Hornby Book of Trains for 1937-38 Front Cover Original Artwork. This Gouache painting by Byran De Grineau shows LMS "Princess Elizabeth" No.6201 going from left to right at full speed through a station with 3 School Boys in uniform watching on. In 1937 Hornby brought out its own version of the "Princess Elizabeth" as illustrated in the Book of Trains for that year and of course became the flag ship of the Hornby O Gauge pre-war system. The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1937. Bryan De Grineau (1883-1957) was a well known artist who was commissioned to produce a number of pre-war LMS Posters and as Captain De Grineau was a highly regarded war artist particularly associated with the London Illustrated News. This painting was hung form many years in the Meccano factory at Binns Road. It is approximately 26.5" (67cm) x 18.5" (47cm) in size and framed. This superb painting is an extremely rare piece of Hornby/Meccano history and is unique. This is the first time this painting has been offered for sale since the factory closed.
