The Michael D. Foster Reference Collection & Tinplate Toys sale to be held on the 21st of March features some extraordinary items. The Michael D. Foster Reference Collection part 2 features examples from volumes, three, four and five of the anthology including Brimtoy, Wells, and Mettoy, engines, coaches, wagons, accessories and sets plus clockwork vehicles. The Harrogate Tinplate Collection features over 100 lots from a private owner collection including pressed steel and tinplate lorries, aircraft, cars, figures and animals from British and German manufacturers. Motoring reference books; sweet, confectionary, biscuit and tobacco tins; board games, vintage cameras, watches, clocks and coins; plus, phonographs and cylinders, and a radiogram. The sale will also include Lego and Playmobil shop display figures, sign and displays, Lego vehicles; friction drive, pre and post war vehicles, novelty toys, radio-controlled boats and aircraft, Jetex Models, Meccano Outfits and much more.
Tipp & Co (Germany) 906b large scale tinplate clockwork Single Decker Bus, c.1928 - light blue with red roof, wings and running boards, yellow interior seating with driver figure who has TCO to shoulders, fitted with tinplate balloon wheels, some nicks and scratches particularly to the roof and surface corrosion mark to top of bonnet - otherwise a Good scarce example, the first that Vectis have had and still comes in a Fair card box with illustrated label to lid, the clockwork motor is in working order driving the rear wheels, 29cm/11.5" long.
Lehmann (Germany) tinplate clockwork 625 "Wild West Bucking Broncho" - very scarce toy c.1909 to 1945 with green base, white horse figure, rider has brown trousers and red shirt, yellow hat, clockwork motor in working order produces Bucking action to horse, it throws the rider forward whilst the wheeled base travels in a circular motion - Good to Good Plus example which still retains a Fair card box with illustrated lid, 7"/17cm long.
Large tinplate clockwork Ferris Wheel, of German manufacture from the early part of the 20th Century - white, with 10 x chairs suspended, each with 2 x figures, clockwork motor is present but requires attention, includes stand, has been overpainted in white but still a Fair to Good impressive early toy, 19"/48cm high.
Tan-Sad very rare British made Pedal Car circa 1935 - an unusual car constructed from wood with metal fittings, produced by the Tan-Sad company who were more famous for the range of office furniture, and the car is similar to the contemporary Lines Bros (Triang) Contemporary Cars. The pedal car is constructed with plywood sides and rear boot, steel top to the bonnet, and comes with many original metal fittings including cycle type mudguards, side lamps, headlamps, number plate, double front bumper, opening side door, side step, tax disc and when new the car was wired for electric headlamps and horn, starting handle, radiator cap, folding windscreen together with steering wheel, pedals and running gear. The metal parts have rusted and the woodwork has suffered due to storage. Fitted with spoked wheels and 4 x solid rubber tyres, the car is a Fair basis for restoration and is well worth doing, 51"/130cm long.
Mettoy (UK) scarce late 1940's "Rapid Transport" tinplate clockwork 4-wheeled Tipping Lorry - black/orange/yellow colourful livery, with tinprinted balloon wheels, clockwork motor with integral key in working order, includes operating tailgate, some wear to cab roof otherwise a Good to Good Plus scarce example 11"/28cm long.
Fleischmann (West Germany) large tinplate clockwork 2-funnelled Liner - c.pre-war period, cream, with brown decks and blue trim, includes both masts, 2 x lifeboats and 3 x flags, the motor is in working order with rear propeller and rudder, some discreet touching in but overall a Good to Good Plus bright example, 13"/33cm long.
Meccano Electrical Outfit - scarce early example c. the early 1920's comprising various electrical components, 2 x bobbins of cable, 4 x Meccano accessory boxes, nuts, bolts etc, incomplete but the contents are otherwise generally Good Plus and all is contained in a Good leatherette style card box with inner card divisions and colourfully illustrated label to lid.
Wells Mickey Mouse Handcar Set. Tinplate clockwork O gauge handcar with Mickey and Donald Duck composition figures. Tin printed in green and red with Pluto and Goofy to sides. Length 7"/18cm. Circa 1949 - 51. With key. Mechanism working when tested. Pluto's tail acts as brake lever. With circle of tinplate track. Good Plus to Excellent. Box is Good but lacks card station inserts. (4/87)
Edison (USA) "Gem" late 19th Century Phonograph - black body with painted tinplate horn, reproducer is marked "Model C", the machine is mounted on a wooden base, the machine is untested but the clockwork motor is in working order (the rubber drive band may be slack) with large side mounted key and speed control button, comes with "Edison Gem Phonograph" to the wooden cover with handle and metal plate reads "Type 1 Gem" to top of lid - Good for display, comes with 2 x cylinder records "Love Me Like I Like To Be Loved" by Clarion Records and an Edison Amber Record "Yes Let Me Like A Soldier Fall" which are Fair including boxes - a scarce item which displays well, the base is 9.5"/24cm wide.
