Full Lot Description

Bing (Germany) 7213 "Bing Brake" large scale tinplate clockwork vintage car. Dating from 1902 and featured in the 1902 Bing catalogue this toy car is one of the hardest to find and comprises tinplate body with 2 x padded bench seats, steering wheel, red generic bonnet (resembles a De Dion), 2 headlamps, steering wheel, black running boards and wings combined and is finished in a cream with green side panels. The car also has red seat backs and is fitted with plated metal spoked wheels. Powered by a substantial clockwork motor with automatic steering device fitted which enables the car to run in an irregular circle (see David Pressland's Book "The Art of the Tin Toy" Page 100). The original white rubber tyres are fitted, the clockwork motor is in working order and the toy does come with a large key. To the rear of the car is the "GBN" Gerbruder Bing of Nuremberg" logo. Once the property of a family from new who lived in a large house, this toy car took pride of place on display, their children not being allowed to play with it! Hence the car has survived in remarkably fine condition and even still retains its original box with a "GBN" trademark label to one end (some tape reinforcement to corners). This model car is one of the rarest of the well-known Bing large scale tinplate clockwork cars and is the first such example that Vectis have had. Interestingly the BBC recently filmed the car during preparations for the forthcoming documentary about Vectis Auctions on the Yesterday channel. Excellent and comes in a Good card box, 10"/25cm long.
