Full Lot Description

Star Wars "A New Hope", two original pages from the Shooting Script, acquired directly from Nick Maley (known as "The Yoda Guy"). This comes with a signed letter of provenance from the vendors and the original Planet Paradise bill of sale, dated 16/2/07. The vendor states: "We visited St Maarten in 2007 and found our way to Nick Maley's studio. He had retired from special effects film work and found a niche for himself as a successful artist. Known as the Yoda Guy for his work on the first two Star Wars films and the production of the Yoda puppets, it was only natural that we would soon be chatting about the making of these two iconic films. Born in London in 1948, we had a lot in common. It turned out that he had some pages of the original shooting script for "A New Hope". These are very rare. This first film was made (it seems incredible now!) before the invention of cheap photocopying machines. The script was produced on a "Gestetner" type duplicator worked from wax covered stencils. These wore out quickly. He told us that only around 25 copies of the complete script were made and they had to be shared amongst the cast and crew. His copy was that for the props and special effects departments. After the film was over it seems that most copies were destroyed- no-one knew how important the film was to become. We were able to buy these two pages from him, featuring the scene in which Luke and Han fight off the TIE fighters. He also signed a card for us. These icons, along with the working title, have been sealed and protected for the last ten years. We are now offering them for sale at Vectis Auctions, England".
