Full Lot Description

Matchbox Regular Wheels No.35c Merryweather Marquis Fire Engine Factory Pre-production Model - red body with hand painted "London Fire Service" lettering and Shield to one side of body, clear windows, blue roof lights, pale grey plastic ladder, chrome plated base and grille, chrome plastic hubs with black tyres, axles have been hand crimped. Model differs from standard Superfast production issue in the following ways: body casting is without roof Chequer-plate detail to rear, both ladder retaining lugs and roof light cast circles are smaller, lower edge of body between the wheelarches is flat whereas production versions have a raised sill area, rear of body has 4 x cast open rectangular holes above the plastic insert which on production versions are cast shut. Base is smooth without any copyright date, the base moulding side hose reels are smaller than production versions and the side lockers are missing their lifting handle details. Model was used by the artist Ron Jobson to produce the box artwork and remained in his possession until sold by Aston's Auctioneers on the 15th October 2011 for which supporting paperwork is included with this lot. Plastic ladder has some damage otherwise Excellent Plus in Fair type F transitional box illustrating Regular Wheel model.
