A Good Example Of An Imperial Russian Early 20Th Century Imperial

Wednesday 15th October 2003 12:00am

Lot 415

A good example of an Imperial Russian early 20th Century imperial guard shako possibly belonging to one the guards artillery units. Low kiwer type body in felt with leather crown, and peaks. The chin-scales, bosses and peak edging are in brass as are the cord buttons that bear the imperial [Romanov] eagle. The shako plate is in the form of a sunray type disk surmounted with a guard star [this is however probably a replacement], the enamel of which has been replaced by paint. The top of the shako is piped red and surmounts a band of yellow/gold lace. The lining is of red silk [partly detached] and a stamp is partly legible reading: "Mecklemburg Staats theatre….." possibly the piece has been part of props department at some time. An attractive decorative piece.
