The model probably dates to the same period as it depicts circa 1896 - 1900. Some of the smaller metal fittings have been replaced or repaired. There are a number of cracks, gouges & chips to the wood and in places the gesso has cracked and fallen off. Many of the smaller items are missing: side-arms, rifles, a gunners foot rest, a holster pouch etc & there are signs of [old] repainting. However, for its probable age this is a unique piece and would repay a professional programme of sympathetic restoration. [11].
