Tinplate and Diecast Success in June
Following on from two excellent days of auctions the Tinplate and Specialist Diecast on Thursday 15th June did not disappoint. 
The days proceedings kicked off with a fine selection of Matchbox Models of Yesteryear which saw a superb £312 price paid for MOY Code 2 - No.YGL14 Ford Woody Van "Michelin". As was the theme of the first two days TV and Film toys were hotly contested as was the relatively modern Hot Wheels "Rrrumblers" gift set . 
Tinplate featured in the second half of the sale with much interest focusing on a rare Schuco (Germany) Soldier Drummer Money Box, not in the best of conditions its scarcity saw the hammer fall on £288 against a pre-sale estimate of £80. Read on for a few more.

Gilbert (Japan) - "James Bond" Aston Martin DB5 - this battery operated issue is generally Near Mint - a beautiful example, comes in an Excellent correct unlicensed picture box showing colourful image with correct inner polystyrene packaging - a beautiful example see photo.

Corgi No.267 "Batman" - Batmobile - finished in gloss black body, chrome hubs with red tyres, blue tinted windscreens with "Batman & Robin" figures, gold trim and tow hook - overall condition is Near Mint (aerial is detached but present) in a generally Excellent blue and yellow slimline window box, comes with secret instruction pack which is Excellent Plus containing missiles attached to sprue, lapel badge and instruction leaflet - also comes with polystyrene end packing pieces - see photo.

Marklin (Germany) Modern Issue No. 16150 Viktoria. Large and impressive tinplate twin screw clockwork ocean liner. Red lower hull, black upper, white superstructure with detail tin printing to deck, includes various deck fittings such as masts, rigging, lifeboats, ventilators, flags etc. Length 38.5?/98cm. This model appears to be as new and not to have been removed from its box. In Excellent Plus illustrated box with inner packaging, key, paper work and outer plain cardboard box.

Marklin (Germany) Modern Issue No. 16051 Stationary Steam Engine. Reproduction of a 1930's Marklin engine. Brass boiler with high and low pressure cylinders mounted in a common cylinder chest. Two flywheels with double stepped pulley grooves. Centrifugal regulator. Mounted on a sheet iron base. Base 14.5"/37cm square. This model appears to be as new and not to have been removed from its box. In Excellent Plus illustrated box with inner packaging, paper work and outer plain cardboard box.

Lehmann (Germany) 823 Mars Tank with Tank Commander. Scarce pre-war clockwork tinplate tank in grey. White rubber tracks. Opening turret hatch. Composition tank commander in black uniform. Clockwork motor working when tested. Length 5.5"/14cm. This toy appears to have had little, if any, use and is Near Mint in a very rare Excellent original illustrate card box.

"James Bond" - Poster - "Live & Let Die" - UK Quad (30" x 40") - overall condition is generally Good Plus (does have some pin holes to edges) - folded - still displays well.

Schuco (Germany) Elektro - Radio 5710 Car. Large scale battery operated tinplate tourer with clockwork music box movement. Red and cream body and caramel and gold plastic fins to rear. Grey base. Red seats and detailed tin printed dashboard. Plated trim, radiator and bumpers. Wheels with metal hubs and white wall tyres. Plastic radio aerial. Motor and musical movement operated by knobs on dashboard. Battery compartment clean and motor working when tested. Musical movement also working when tested, although a little temperamental in operation. Length 10.5"/27cm. Some light wear, including rubs to gold finish on fins and scratch behind seat but otherwise Good Plus to Excellent.

Schuco (Germany) Soldier Drummer Money Box. Rare clockwork tinplate figure in felt uniform and tin printed drum with coin slot and lockable opening base (no key). Circa 1930's. Clockwork mechanism needs attention. Height 6"/15cm. Some minor play wear and wear to front of hat. Generally Good for display. The first to be offered by Vectis.
